Bluebelle was the first goat kid born at Storybook Farm. She had quite and exciting entry into the world. It was touch and go for quite awhile. We considered her our miracle kid. (You can read that story here, if you’re interested!)
She has great breed character, is long and very feminine, with long ears and an elegant topline.

Bluebelle’s Udder
I could tell as she got close to kidding this June that Bluebelle’s udder was going to be beautiful, and it did not disappoint! Here are shots of her udder after kidding. It has great shape and capacity, soft skin, correct teat placements, and a wonderful fore-udder. I am really pleased with this udder!
Below are her udder pictures on the morning of her first 12-hour separation from her boy/girl twins in June of 2020. She gave 3.1#. She again kidded with twins in 2021. We were excited to be putting her on milk test in 2021 (since COVID torpedoed our testing in 2020)!
Bluebelle freshened her second time with twin girls (one polled) sired by Goat Trails Finley’s Gem Texas Pete. Left is her udder only 16 days fresh.
She led the barn during the first milk test of her second lactation (though some of our higher producers were several months into their lactations). She earned her milk production star easily in 2021.
This is Bluebelle’s third freshening udder in March of 2022, about six weeks fresh after 12-hour separation. She is nursing triplet bucklings.
Bluebelle earned her production star easily in 2021. She is now 3*P.
Bluebelle’s Dam Line
Bluebelle’s Dam
Bluebelle was born here, but she was bred at JC Farm before we purchased her. This is her dam, Hurlburt Farms Buttercup 2*P.
Bluebelle’s litter was Buttercup’s third freshening, and we were very pleased with her milk supply. She easily raised three doelings, who are all very much still attached to their mom.
Below are Buttercup’s udder shots and pedigree. You can read more about her sires and dams here.
See Buttercup’s page for her 305-day milk star certificate!
Bluebelle’s Sire Line
Bluebelle’s Sire
Buttercup was bred at JC Farm to Mini Ranch Arizona.
Arizona is moon spotted, and has wonderful dairy skin. He comes from strong milk lines.
Below is Arizona’s pedigree. Read and see more on Buttercup’s page.
Arizona’s dam’s udder on the left, and his grand dam’s udder on the right. Macy May (right) is Green Gables’ Thunder’s dam’s full sister.
Bluebelle’s Kids
2020 Kids
Bluebelle was bred to Green Gables E Asher *B in January of 2020, and kidded with twins (doe/buck) on June 8, 2020. These kids were F5. We retained her daughter, calling her Storybook’s Briar Rose. Her kidding was easy and quick; her placenta took awhile to birth. She kidded on Day 145.
Bluebelle’s FF udder was a thing of beauty: capacious, tight, and high, with correct teat placement.
Curiously, it developed unevenly at first, but by the time she had her kids on her for a day or two, it evened out perfectly.
2021 Kids
Bluebelle gave us two beautiful girls on May 2, sired by Goat Trails Finley’s Gem Texas Pete. The firstborn, Storybook’s Mayflower, was, from the first, energetic and strong. Her sister, Storybook’s Lilac, had a rough ride out of the womb and took a couple of days to thrive, but once she got started, she’s done great. We love them both and are looking forward to seeing how Pete improved them. Lilac is polled, and freshened for the first time in 2023 with triplets and a very productive udder. Mayflower also freshened with only a single buckling. Her udder had nice shape but was not highly productive. We are breeding her again in 2024 for 2025 kids.
2022 Kids
Bluebelle was bred to BlackBerry’s BQ Once in a Blue Moon, and kidded swiftly first thing in the morning while we were hardly looking! Our housemate, Tori, had to alert Scott that kids were on the ground! In his hurry, Scott thought that they were all doelings, but days later, when we went to disbud them, we found that they were all stunning little bucklings.
2023 Kids
Bluebelle was paired with Green Gables E Asher *B, whom we subsequently lost to meningeal worm a few weeks later. Bluebelle delivered twins: Storyboook’s Pansy and Storybook’s Buckeye *B, both retained. Buckeye sired two litters in 2023.
2024 Kids
Bluebelle was paired with Green Gables AC Amazing Asteroid *B. They produced two *B boys (Chocolate Cosmos and Kayah), and one adorable doeling, named Storybook’s Creme de Cocoa (who is retained).
