Green Gables E Asher *B

Asher (born March 22, 2019) grew to be a handsome herdsire, and gave us many beautiful kids. Sadly, in the fall of 2022 he contracted meningeal worm and died on Nov 21. We miss him sorely!

Pictures of Asher’s relatives are courtesy of Green Gables Mini Nubians, as are the comments written by Eliya Elmquist about them.

We have bred Asher for three seasons now, and have freshened three of his daughters (Cressy, Honey Moon, and Twinkle) in 2020. He improved the udders of the dams of these daughters in each case. Their udders were more capacious and better shaped than their dams’.

In 2021, he sired 12 kids out of five does. Scroll down for kid pictures. We did not use him for 2022 kids, but in 2023 he was bred to 5 does before he got sick. We retained four of his daughters from this year, and two sons.

Asher’s Registration

Asher’s Dam: Green Gables SOF Snow Camo 3*P

“Cami is a gorgeous, wildly moonspotted doe out of one of my favorite does (Trillium) by a buck out of another favorite doe (Nutmeg)! Cami exemplifies what we are striving for in our herd.  She has good breed character and nice conformation with a long, wide, deep body, strong level topline and correct feet and legs. Her head is very nice withh excellent width and depth, good breed character & sweet, gentle eyes…”

“Cami’s udder is very close to my ideal with high, wide attachments, a strong medial, a well extended, strong foreudder, correctly placed and sized teats (that are easy to milk!) and lots of capacity with a good will to milk. Her production is excellent, she peaked at 7# as a first freshener!  She has continued to milk well in her subsequent lactations with a steady 5# throughout her lactation peaking at over a gallon.”

Asher’s Grand Dam: Green Gables USG Trillium 2*P

“TRILLIUM – what a doe! She has WONDERFUL conformation, with a smooth, level top-line, strong feet and legs, tons of body capacity with a wide chest. She has nice breed character although her ears could be little softer and wider.”

“To top it all off, Trillium has an absolutely stunning udder.  Socked on TIGHT and very capacious.  Her teats are correctly placed and well shaped.  She milks extremely well for her size giving almost as much as some of the does who are several inches taller than she is.  She gave over 1050#’s of milk in 2011 with a 5.46%BF.  At nine years old, she produced 1198# in 288 days with many days of 6-7# of milk!”

Asher’s Great Grand Dam: Country Dreams Rosebud 1*P

“Rosebud is a very dark buckskin with frosted ears and muzzle and a few white markings. Her ears are pendulous and her nose is roman. She has a very smooth, level topline with an extremely flat rump. She has great body capacity and very strong feet and legs.  Rosebud is a good, steady milker giving 5-6 lbs of milk per day. Her udder is very well attached with a high, wide rear udder and super tight attachments all around. Her teats are well delineated and well placed. Rosebud’s kids are always gorgeous with wonderful conformation and lovely personalities. Most of her sons have gone to breeding homes and Green Gables has retained 2 of her daughters for our herd.”

Asher’s Sire: Green Gables Eclipse *B (aka “Tex”)

“I have his full sister, Cali, who turned out to be one of our best does ever. His dam and sire are both some of the best goats we’ve had and his sister is simply incredible. We call him Tex as we already have an Eclipse in our herd. Tex has very nice conformation with a long smoothly blended body, nice topline, strong feet and legs and decent breed character.”

Sister Cali’s 2nd freshening udder. See more about Cali here.

Asher’s Sire’s Dam: VMCH Green Gables EHJ Sapphire 3*P

“SAPPHIRE is a beautiful doe out of the first goats I purchased from Echo Hill’s. She is absolutely beautiful! I was mighty tempted to keep at least one of her triplet sisters as well, but restrained myself and just kept one of Molly and Jasper’s beautiful daughters. Sapphire has very nice conformation with strong feet and legs and lots of body capacity.  Her main faults is that she is on the tall side and has a rather steep rump (although it is incredibly flat).

Sapphire easily earned her last two V-CH legs in 2011 as a 3 year old and is the 2nd doe in the country to earn the VMCH title.  She took Best in Show, Best Udder in Show (in both rings), Best Udder of Breed as well as Grand Champion – She deserves it!”

“Her dam was our best milker giving about 7-8 lbs of milk each day and has given nearly 11# in one day! Molly has a lovely udder and is super easy to milk. JSapphire has followed in her mother’s hoofprints and has the most amazing udder ever!  Her udder socked on super tight with very nice shape.  I don’t know that I’ve ever seen an udder with such high, wide, tight rear attachments!  She is also milking very well, keeping up the high production through the summer and fall months.  She easily produces over a gallon a day for the first several months of her lactation and is usually still producing over 1/2 a gallon (4 lbs) late in her lactation.  Like her dam, she has very nice sized teats that make her easy to milk.”

Asher’s Sire’s Sire: Echo Hill’s Jasper +*B

“JASPER was a wonderful buck that added a lot to our herd.  Our first buck from Echo Hill’s, this little guy had a great personality and conformation and passed it all onto his kids.  Jasper’s dam, Hackman Farms Easter Sunrise , has had many show wins including 3X RsGCH, 1 X BUB and 1 X BUS. She has a level topline and her udder is very nice. Easter and her dam Diamond give lots of milk. Diamond has one of the best udders I have ever seen on a MiniNubian. Jasper’s sire has awesome breed character and comes from a good milking line.”
