Lilac is one of our overall favorite girls. JC’s Bluebelle 3*P has one of the best udders in our barn, and she was bred to Goat Trails’ Finley’s Gem Texas Pete, who is polled, for her 2021 kidding. We were all anticipation for this kidding! And she has finally freshened with triplets in 2024, and they are gorgeous, as is her udder.

Lilac had a rough start!
Bluebelle kidded in the middle of the night, and it was really odd. First came Mayflower, then came the placenta. I bumped Bluebelle and definitely felt another kid in there… so the placenta coming when it did was very odd. Then came a decayed kid (yuck). THEN came Lilac.
At first, she seemed vigorous, but as morning broke, I knew she was in trouble. She did not latch on, so we tube fed her twice. By next morning, I was wondering if she’d make it at all. We finally gave her a BOSE shot, and that seemed to help her turn the corner. Her front legs were weak and had to be splinted for the first week!
However, of the two live sisters, Lilac is the one who got their sire’s polled genes! She also got beautiful coloring, roaning, and long ears! We are so glad that the Lord allowed us to keep her, and we looked forward to breeding her in the fall of 2022, but her young buck wasn’t quite ready, so she ill be a first freshener as a two-year-old in 2024.

Lilac’s dam is JC’s Bluebelle 3*P. Her udder is one of our top producers. She earned her milk star in 2021 as a second freshener (because 2020 torpedoed all milk testing for us). This is her third freshening udder: strong medial, great teat placement, and high in the escutcheon. She has a really lovely foreudder as well.

Lilac’s Udder
Lilac is a two-year-old FF in 2024, due to no fault of her own. In 2021 she was too young, and in 2022 we lost two of our senior bucks, and the junior bucks couldn’t get the job done on five of our does! However, Green Gables AC Amazing Asteroid *B was able to breed her in 2023 for kids in 2024.
We have just separated her for 12 hours for the first time, and the results are exciting! Her udder is well shaped, high and tight, with a strong medial, lovely foreudder extension, and especially for this early in her lactation. Her teats are great for milking, and well placed.
All in all, I’m thrilled with Lilac, and have retained her polled daughter, Storybook’s Dahlia.

Lilac freshened as a two-year-old, due to deaths/disabilities among our senior bucks due to meningeal worm contracted in 2022. The junior buck to whom we tried to breed her wasn’t up to the task. However, Green Gables AC Amazing Asteroid *B did successfully breed her in 2023, and she gave us gorgeous triplets in March of 2024. Two were polled; we retained her polled daughter, Storybook’s Dahlia.
