We are excited to be welcoming Dorothy to Storybook Farm! Kathy Hurlburt writes that “Dorothy is a dream to milk with nice soft teats and udder. At 4 months fresh she is milking around 5 1/2#. Also I absolutely love her kids! [Her daughter] Dory earned her milk star as a FF with a very nice udder and just as soft as Dorothy’s.”

Dorothy’s dam’s dam: Echo Hill’s Molly O’Malley 2*P*V

Eliya Elmquist wrote, “Molly’s ears were fully pendulous and her nose was roman. Molly’s dam, Patches, has given 10 lbs. in one day! She milks down very well. Patches has been 4X GCH, 2X BIS, 4X BUB, 2X BUIS, 1XRCH. Molly’s sire side has lots of milk too – his dam gave 6.6 lbs. on her one-day milk test.”

Molly’s FF Udder (at 2 years old)

Eliya Elmquist wrote of her: “Molly had a beautiful udder and gave tons of milk. She produced about 8 lbs per day (a full gallon!) and has given nearly 11 lbs in a single day!!! Her udder was well attached and capacious with very easy to milk teats.”

Dorothy’s dam’s sire: Green Gables EHJ Beethoven

Eliya Elmquist wrote of him, “Beethoven is a beautiful buck with good breed character and nice conformation.  He has one of the widest chests I’ve seen in a MiniNubian and an overall excellent front end assembly.  Beethoven is out of one of my all time favorite bucks, +*B Echo Hill’s Jasper.”

VMCH Green Gables SS Moon Beam *B

Eliya Elmquist writes of him: “Moonbeam has beautiful conformation and good breed character.  His dam has a wonderful udder with nice long teats, and a super tightly attached udder.  She also milks VERY well.  MoonBeam also has a very nice personality and loves people.  MoonBeam’s kids are all VERY nice and we often see improvements over their dam.  Moonbeam’s daughters have freshened with BEAUTIFUL, socked on udders..  Moonbeam has proven to be one of our most consistent bucks.  I just love this buck!”

Dorothy’s Sire’s Dam: Green Gables USG Trillium 2*P (Also Asher’s granddam)

Eliya Elmquist wrote of her: “TRILLIUM – what a doe! She has WONDERFUL conformation, with a smooth, level top-line, strong feet and legs, tons of body capacity with a wide chest. She has nice breed character.”

“To top it all off, Trillium has an absolutely stunning udder.  Socked on TIGHT and very capacious.  Her teats are correctly placed and well shaped.  She milks extremely well for her size giving almost as much as some of the does who are several inches taller than she is.  She gave over 1050#’s of milk in 2011 with a 5.46%BF.  At nine years old, she produced 1198# in 288 days with many days of 6-7# of milk!

Dorothy’s Sire’s Sire: Echo Hills Shining Star

Eliya Elmquist wrote, ” STAR is a beautiful buck from Echo Hill’s. He is a very long and dairy buck. Star has wonderful breed character with a nice roman nose and LONG, well shaped ears. Star’s sire, FCH Rainbow Meadows Charlie Brown, was the first finished champion MiniNubian buck in the country. ”

“He has been producing lots of really nice kids at Echo Hills. Star’s dam, Hidden Creek’s Sierra Wind, is an excellent milker with a beautiful udder and long, easy to milk teats. Sierra also has wonderfully long, wide ears and an extreme roman nose. Star’s kids have been beautiful! They are all VERY long and dairy with ears much improved over their dams.”

Dorothy’s Kids at Storybook Farm

2019

Dorothy came to us as a six-year-old. She had never dam raised kids before! In 2019, she gave us triplets: two boys and a girl. She was bred to Goat Trails Finley’s Gem Texas Pete, who is polled. One of the triplets, a buckling, was polled. The two bucklings were sold, and we retaind the doeling, Storybook’s Bridget O’Malley.

2021 Kids

In 2021, Dorothy again gave us triplets by Pete (who had been sold, so this was the last time for this pairing). We hit the jackpot: three polled kids! Two doelings and a buckling. We retained the girls (Storybook’s Colleen O’Malley and Storybook’s Sheila O’Malley) and (sadly) sold the boy–but with a buy-back clause!

2022 Kidless!

Sadly, Dorothy never came into heat in the fall of 2021, so we had no kids from her this year! Her daughter, Bridget, kidded flawlessly with three adorable bucklings, sired by BlackBerry’s BQ Once in a Blue Moon.
