In February of 2019, we purchased our first herdsire: Bellhouse’s Rigel *B, as a newborn buckling. Later that year, in July, we were offered the opportunity to purchase his dam, Echo Hills’ Sparrow *P. We jumped at the chance! But, we were delayed by family events in picking her up.
Sparrow came into heat early, and got out of her pen just days before we were scheduled to pick her up. Goat Trails’ Texas Blue broke through electric fencing to be with her. (So romantic!) Tex is blue eyed and moon spotted, and Sparrow had just easily earned her milk star.
Sparrow made the trip to Storybook Farm shortly after her romantic interlude, and delivered, right on Day 150 (December 9), three adorable doelings; Chickadee is one of these. Pictured above, she is 18 months old. Pictured left, she is a young kid, about 8 weeks old.
She is beautifully moonspotted, with LONG ears and great breed character. Like her mom, her topline is superb. Chickadee is super friendly, and her crazy antics entertain us around the barn!
She is F7 (Purebred) and registered with MDGA.
We had planned to breed her to Green Gables E Asher *B in the fall of 2020, but we never caught her in heat. We hope to get her bred for a first freshening in 2022.
Chickadee’s Registration
Chickadee’s Dam
Echo Hills Sparrow *P is pure joy all the way around. She has a terrific topline and highly productive udder, with wonderfully placed teats that have open orifices. If there was anything to improve on Sparrow, it would be to tighten and lift her udder, but that’s being really picky. (If you want to read more about Sparrow, and see udder pictures, click on her name above.)
Chickadee is the middle of Sparrow’s triplets.
Chickadee’s Sire
Goat Trails Texas Blue is related to our Texas Pete. He is blue eyed and moonspotted, the latter of which traits he passed on to his daughter Chickadee.
Blue has thrown beautiful kids for years, and has a rich milk heritage. If you want to learn more about Tex, visit Rigel’s page. Tex is his sire as well.
