Storybook’s Buckeye *B (F5)

Born in March of 2023, Buckeye is a much-longed-for gift to us. His sire, Green Gables E Asher *B died of meningeal worm in the fall of 2022, but before that he bred four does. JC’s Bluebelle 3*P was one of those does. She had been bred to Asher before, and gave us two outstanding kids: Storybook’s Briar Rose (whose udder is beautiful in every way) and Storybook’s Bramble *B. We had been planning to buy Bramble back in 2023, when he suddenly died of silent pneumonia. Buckeye is his full brother, and we’re thrilled to be retaining him, along with his littermate sister, Storybook’s Pansy!

Buckeye pictured here is 18 months old, and is broad of chest and deep of body, with lovely breed character.

Buckeye’s Registration

Buckeye’s Dam Line

Buckeye’s Dam: JC’s Bluebelle 3*P

Bluebelle’s udder is wonderful! It is high and tight and with a strong medial and lovely, well blended fore udder.

Bluebelle earned her milk star during her second freshening, and the udder has only improved as she has aged.

Buckeye’s Sister

Buckeye’s Full Sister: Storybook’s Briar Rose

Rosie is Buckeye’s full sister (same dam and sire), three years older.

This is Rosie’s second freshening, early in her lactation in 2023. She nursed triplets without difficulty. We hope to put her on milk test in 2023, and confidently expect her to earn her milk star.

Buckeye’s Grand Dam: Hurlburt Farm’s Buttercup 2*P

Buttercup’s udder in 2019. Buttercup gave a bit over 6 lbs./day in 2023 at a month fresh. Her dam and sister both have milk stars. She has very rich milk, and easily earned her star in her fourth freshening.

Buckeye’s Sire Line

Buckeye’s Sire: Green Gables E Asher *B

In 2021, Asher sired 12 kids out of five does. (Click here for kid pictures.) We did not use him for 2022 kids, but in 2023 he was bred to 5 does before he got sick with meningeal worm and passed away.

Buckeye was one of his offspring in 2023.

Buckeye’s Sire’s Dam: Green Gables SOF Snow Camo 3*P

“Cami is a gorgeous, wildly moonspotted doe out of one of my favorite does (Trillium) by a buck out of another favorite doe (Nutmeg)! Cami exemplifies what we are striving for in our herd.  She has good breed character and nice conformation with a long, wide, deep body, strong level topline and correct feet and legs. Her head is very nice withh excellent width and depth, good breed character & sweet, gentle eyes…” –Eliya Elmquist

“Cami’s udder is very close to my ideal with high, wide attachments, a strong medial, a well extended, strong foreudder, correctly placed and sized teats (that are easy to milk!) and lots of capacity with a good will to milk. Her production is excellent, she peaked at 7# as a first freshener!  She has continued to milk well in her subsequent lactations with a steady 5# throughout her lactation peaking at over a gallon.” –Eliya Elmquist

Asher’s Grand Dam: Green Gables USG Trillium 2*P

“TRILLIUM – what a doe! She has WONDERFUL conformation, with a smooth, level top-line, strong feet and legs, tons of body capacity with a wide chest. She has nice breed character although her ears could be little softer and wider.”  –Eliya Elmquist

“To top it all off, Trillium has an absolutely stunning udder.  Socked on TIGHT and very capacious.  Her teats are correctly placed and well shaped.  She milks extremely well for her size giving almost as much as some of the does who are several inches taller than she is.  She gave over 1050#’s of milk in 2011 with a 5.46%BF.  At nine years old, she produced 1198# in 288 days with many days of 6-7# of milk!” –Eliya Elmquist

Buckeye’s Kids at Storybook Farm

2024 Kids

Buckeye sired two litters in 2024. He was bred to JC’s Penelope and Wonderful Farms SG Royal Candy *P.

Penny kidded with gorgeous doe/buck twins: Chloe and Timothy. Penny’s daughter, JC’s Biscotti (by Buckeye’s full brother, Storybook’s Bramble)is freshening in 2024. Biscotti is one of triplet doelings born to Penny/Bramble in 2022, and her udder height and shape are outstanding. We are really looking forward to seeing her milk production! Chloe is as close to a full sister as one can get without actually being one!

Candy had twins, five days late! She had a doeling (retained: Storybook’s Bit O Honey) and a buckling (Shoo Fly Pie).
