Snowdrop is a sweet girl who was our second born kid at Storybook Farm in early April of 2019. She is a light colored chocolate, with copious moonspots.
Snowdrop earned her milk star in 2021. We have only two daughters from her in four breeding seasons, but they are beauties: Storybook’s Tiger Lily and Storybook’s Poppy.
Snowdrop’s Registration
Snowdrop earned her milk star in 2021, freshening with a singleton doeling.
Snowdrop’s Udder
As a first freshener, Snowdrop’s udder was nice and high, socked on tight. She consistently gave 4#/day through the milking season. We started on our first milk tests but — 2020 stopped us in our tracks.
Her 2nd freshening udder matured with a LOT of production, especially considering she was just nursing one kid.
She earned her milk star in 2021. (Certificate above)
Snowdrop’s 2024 udder is phenomenal! She produced over a gallon (8.5#) on her first milk test of the 2024 season.
At 5 years old, her udder is still high, tight, and productive! She’s a great mom, nursing quads with a bit of help (just so that they don’t maul her as much).
Snowdrop’s Dam
Snowdrop’s dam, Hurlburt Farms’ Buttercup 2*P, came to us pregnant. You can read more about her (and see her pedigree and udder pictures) on her individual page HERE.
Snowdrop’s Sire
Buttercup was bred to Arizona in 2019. Below is his picture. You can read more about him and his pedigree HERE.
Snowdrop’s Kids
2020 Kids
Snowdrop was bred to Green Gables’ E Asher *B in January of 2020, and on June 7 (three days early) she surprised us with a single buckling. We checked this girl at 10:00 AM, and then again at about 12 noon. This is what we found when we did that second check!
We named her boy Dandy Lion, continuing the floral theme of this line, and he was a true sweetheart.
We were dismayed to find Dandy sick one morning—and seriously so. He had contracted either Polio or Lisistrata (hard to tell the difference without a blood test) and we treated him for both. He had two large shots a day, and we tube fed him four times a day. It was a marathon, but we were so thankful when he pulled through, and subsequently went off to a sweet family in VA.
2021 Kid
Snowdrop was again bred to Green Gables E Asher *B, and produced a beautiful moonspotted doeling, Storybook’s Tiger Lily. Again, she had this kid without us!
This girl has grown up to be a lovely doe with a knockout udder. Her attachments are the best in our barn. She is on milk test (finally!) in 2024 and on track to earn her production star.
2022 Kids
Snowdrop was bred to Prince Valiant, and had twin boys. The birth was horrific (our fault entirely), but the boys were adorable!
2023 No Kids
Snowdrop was bred late to Mosaic’s Mahogany Obsidian (Sid), who was too juvenile to perform adequately. The breeding for 2023 was severely challenged by senior bucks contracting meningeal worm. But, Snowdrop’s daughter, Storybook’s Tiger Lily freshened with a knockout udder, and we retained Snowdrop’s granddaughter, Storybook’s Sassafras.
2024 Kids
Snowdrop was again bred to Mosaic’s Mahogany Obsidian (Sid) *B and this time he was all grown up and may have overperformed! She was super big all during her pregnancy. I worried that she wouldn’t go to term. I worried about another nightmare birth with tangled kids; I worried about having to go in to get them. Etc. Etc. I prayed for her really hard!
Her kidding on March 3 (her Day 149) was so healing! Snowdrop labored all day at a slow pace, keeping me on edge. She was inwardly focused and shifting positions, but it was a beautiful day here and she was outside with her friends and hubby Scott who sat nearby and read a whole book while keeping an eye on her.
Long story short, when she finally did start pushing, there were four kids in perfect birthing position! Three boys and (oh joy!) a baby girl. The boys are F5 *B sweeties, with outstanding breed character. We’ll be retaining only the girl; named Storybook’s Poppy. She’s the black sundgau one with moonspots. The boys are: one solid chocolate, one chocolate Swiss marked, and one solid black with moonspots.
