Skillman’s Andromeda (Meda)

Little Meda: so much personality in such a cute package! Her flying feet, her airplane ears, and friendly personality make her a fun gal to have around. Meda was born on June 8, 2019. She was too young for the 2020 breeding season, but her genetics are MILKY and we were excited about including her in our 2021 lineup.

Below, Andromeda at 18 months, a day or two after her first litter (twins, pictured below).

Meda’s Udder

I did not grab a picture of Meda’s first freshening udder. Soon after her kids left, she was traded to Green Gables for Wonderful Farm SG Royal Candy *B.

Meda spent several years at Green Gables where she earned her milk production star and produced the sire of our Green Gables J Wolf Moon *B, Green Gables CF G. I. Joe *B.

This is her 3F udder, rear.

Meda’s Dam Line

Meda’s dam is Skillman’s Milky Way (Milcah). Her genetic heritage includes some of the highest milk producers in the mini Nubian and Nigerian Dwarf circles. Read more about Milcah, and see her pedigree HERE.

Meda’s Sire Line

Meda’s sire, Twilight after Sunset (Sunny), has been used extensively at the Skillman Ranch, and with great results! Sunny is the son of Skillman’s Star AR 4*D, who is now one of our best does here at Storybook Farm. You can read more about Sunny on Milcah’s page HERE.

Meda’s Kids at Storybook Farm

Andromeda was a June baby, so she had to wait to be 18 months old before her first freshening. She was the first bred in 2020 to Green Gables E Asher *B, and delivered four days short of her February 9 due date, at 7:30 on February 5.

Her labor was calm and uneventful until serious pushing came. The firstborn was a buckling who, though not huge, was still plenty big for this first freshener. I ended up pulling him, to her great relief. Only minutes after Buffy’s delivery, Muffy was born. She was a tiny little doeling and came squirting out of her mom like a greased piglet.

In picture above, Buffy (male) is on the left. He looks a lot like his sire, Asher, but without the moonspots. On the right is Muffy. She is a light buckskin with Swiss markings. Below, they are at 36 hours. Muffy left; Buffy right. (These are their barn names, not permanent.)

At first I was worried about Muffy because she was so small, but as I write this, the twins are 36 hours old, and both seem to be doing well with just a heating pad in a kid hut. Meda is a super good mom!
